Moisture and Natural Hair

Well the seasons are changing. It's cooler here in Ohio. And a natural girl is trying desperately to figure this hair thing out. I watched a few videos on youtube over the weekend trying to figure something out. I'm in need of a new style, and some moisturizing tips. A few things I use that seem to be staples among my youtube counter parts were: Water Spritzing: I love water spritzing. It's a main stay in my routine. I spritz when I'm on the go and need to refresh. I'll spritz to prep my hair before adding a moisturizer. And I spritz a style gone bad, in a heart beat. Re work my kinks and gone on about my way. No more bad hair days, so long as I have water!! Shea Butter: Raw shea is the best in my book. I prefer the yellow. There is a rule of thumb when it comes to my family and friends and my shea; ask before you dip. You never know if I've scented it, added something to it, or if I'm down to the last drop. Castor Oil: Castor oil is a recent addition for me. I love the way it makes my hair feel. It's thick. I would suggest cutting it with a lighter oil if you cannot handle or have a hard time applying due to thickness. I actually mixed mine with some african herbal oil that I picked up in the hair store for $2 or so. I didn't like it on my hair alone, but mixed with the castor oil, it's a nice working product. I also watched a few styling videos. I have been trying my hardest to do and twist and curl and it just doesn't work for me. I've seen it on others who have the same length of hair and it looks great. But I can't get it down. So I watched a few videos on flat twisting and I think that I may try this as a dry style tonight. Since I am wearing yet another twist and curl gone bad today. I'd post pics but I already worked it out with the water spritz. So my game plan for tonight is to spritz with water, my styling product for tonight will be a combo of castor oil and garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in conditioner. Here's one of the videos that I watched over the weekend. Enjoy! Candace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Topq_PLjBSE

Aussie-Product Review

So, ran to the dollar store last Friday to pick up some soap and snacks. And I was tempted by my inner product junkie to try Aussie Moist. Now, I actually dodn't know much about the line, however I had read here, that it would be a good combing conditioner, so I tried it. I purchased both the Moist Shampoo and Conditioner. I can say that I am really pleased with this purchase, and plan to make these products part of my regular routine. The shampoo was very hydrating, I used the conditioner as a rinse and combing. I left a lot of excess in my hair to keep it moist on my way out to a cook out. It did clump, but I think that was my fault, I used too much.
It's now 4 days later, and all I've done is sprayed my hair with water and added a touch of castor oil monday, and a bit of hair dress this morning and I love how my hair feels! It's a keeper.
I'm out!!
Stay Blessed, and I'll talk to you later

Empower Yourself with a Reality Check!

Empower Yourself with a Reality Check! The power to move forward by embracing what is. Recently, while talking to friends or clients, I've heard the phrase "it is what it is" several times - and even found myself using it to encourage others. I have learned that when a theme repeats itself, sometimes there is a message in it and it's wise to pay attention. Perhaps you are reading this today because "it is what it is" is a theme that applies to a challenge you currently face. Whether at work or home, in your finances or health, things don't always unfold just as you would like. Often, the smartest, least stressful approach you can take is to accept that "it is what it is." You may wish it were different. Perhaps it should be different. But it isn't. When you accept the reality of a situation rather than ruminating over what "should be," you empower yourself to come up with solutions to move forward. No longer stuck in the past, you are free to focus your energy on improving the situation for the future. You don't blame anyone. You simply accept the thing you cannot change and go about changing the things you can. How does this message apply to you? Perhaps you are dealing with a co-worker or boss who is unreasonable. They are always unreasonable and you aren't going to be able to change them. It is what it is. What will you do to preserve your sanity when dealing with this person? Perhaps you'll choose to stop trying to prove a point or stop engaging in debates with them. Maybe someone has treated you unfairly and refuses to apologize or see things from your point of view. It is what it is. Save yourself undue drama and make the changes you need to make to protect yourself from being treated that way in the future. Perhaps you are struggling with a health issue or financial challenges. It is what it is. You may need to grieve what has been lost so you can focus on rebuilding now. Do what you need to do. "It is what it is" is a statement that releases you from the need to analyze, manipulate or change a situation in order to have peace. It acknowledges that life isn't perfect - nor does it need to be in order for you to have joy. Your happiness doesn't have to be dependent upon what happens. Your emotions don't have to be tossed to and fro at the whim of others' behavior. Take a deep breath and remind yourself of all that you have to be grateful for. You can choose peace in any moment. Doing so is not always easy, but it is always possible. Coach yourself: In what situation is it time to accept a reality that you don't want to accept? What would it look like to let go? What shift will you have to make to move forward in a positive way? Updates & Changes

This post has a lot of things rolled up into one post so please be patient. Well I've been enrolled as a full time adult degree earner for 5 months now! I have a 3.5 GPA, and am ready for a break!! Too bad we don't have a break until Thanksgiving. Both the kids are older now. 1 and 7. What was I thinking? Blessings!! So, I started a blog post some time ago that never made it to post, on rather or not I wanted to keep this blog up any longer. So much is really changing for me, and I really didn’t take this blog where I wanted or the way I wanted it when I started. A lot of my writing focused on what I wanted to write, what I wanted to make, but never really came into fruition. And some personal stuff that will never leave : ) Well’ things are changing!!
Just how much are things going to change? You ask…
1 I've changesd the name of this blog from What's Cooking in My Soul to Candid Soul.
All new IDs I am now listed as Candid Soul on everything! (I will keep my old email posted for a short time)
2To encourage more convo I thought it would be fun to get a google voice number. So now you can call and chat with me or just leave me a message. You can even text me to that number. It will be posted here shortly. Not today but shortly.
3 I love magazines, and would love to be fourtunate enough to have a C Magazine, but I'm not Oprah, I'm not ready to pay to print, nor can I afforda it. So here it is!! (I'd have a custom web address, but until I can come to turns with how I have to spell it, or talk a photographer out of the one I want, I'll be here)
4 There are several tv shows that ilike, but uuuhhhmm yea so at some point I plan to get some video up.
In so many words, I'm about to do me!! The best way I can , affordable and candid!!
Well, you’ll have to stick around and see the rest for yourself. Things will be gradually changing! Till next time Candid

SUNDAY'S DEVOTIONAL--Dig A Ditch- From Aunt Pat!

Good Morning!

And he said, thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
(2 KINGS 3 : 16-17)

The armies were dying of thirst when they received the prophet's words. God instructed them, through His prophet, to do something first in the natural: Dig a ditch! It's too late to dig a ditch after the rains come. Get prepared. Stay ready. Be armed. When God says to act, don't delay. Do exactly what He commands.

The man with the withered arm wasn't healed until he stretched forth his arm. Farmers don't expect a harvest until they sow seed. God will not send your increase until you have prepared to receive it. What will you do today to prepare to receive what God has for you?

God has something He wants to give you--so prepare for increase. If you want to make room for Him in your life, you have to dig a ditch.

Today's Prayer:

JESUS, I WANT TO RECEIVE ALL YOU HAVE FOR ME. I AM DIGGING A DITCH, PREPARING A PLACE FOR ALL YOU HAVE FOR ME. I AM READY, LORD. SEND YOUR RAIN. AMEN.

If you could trade lives with someone else, who would it be and why?

I chose to use a prompt today for so many reasons today, I can't pick one. Hopefully in the words to follow you see and understand the path that I'm on right now. If I could trade lives with someone it would have to be someone that met the following criteria: Exhibits a bias for action Content- these people do exist Spiritually balanced Go getter Focused Free/Transparent

I'm sure there's more, but for the sake of not looking like I'm beating myself up. I'm not by any means. I need to move on. You know how sometimes you just have to stand back and take a self inventory? I'm just in that place. I'm happy with so few things in life right now and I've had to stand back and be critical of myself, and these are the things that I see I'm not so strong at. I find myself often saying I want to be like her, or I wish I could do that. And so often I say, so go ahead, and not much materializes. So then I asked self why? For the longest I could find every reason as to why it was not me. And for the longest instead of doing what I wanted to do for me I'd find a way to make it for someone else, and do it for them. If I oozed more of these qualities selfishly, I feel like wow, that would be the life. I'd give myself so much more permission to be. It's funny how you won't allow self to be self for fear of messing up but we put trust in people allow them into our lives and them wonder how in the hell did I get here? I said I was in a particular place today, blue music and all, just bear with me. So for now instead of being particularly gloomy or remaining in a state of dismay. I choose to not examine the long list of realistic people I admire and figure out how to emanate their external in my life. Or even figure out how to get close enough to ask, how. Because truth has it, they could be just as __(you know)_ as I feel. And nobody knows it!!!! Did you suspect me?

I'm going to keep working at being me!! In considering this I've had to examine everything from my surrounding, persons, and even family. Because we all know that family just doesn't get it, sometimes. I've created a to –do list for this year. My hopes are to complete as much as possible, and walk more closely to the person I seek to be. Me!! Grace and Peace ya'll

Still treding water!!

Somethings manage to reseovel themselves while others just keep getting worse. I've spent the better par tof ther year blaming myself and sresenting soem of the choice ihave made thus far and towards the end of 2008. However, I know it takes 2 to tango. While things have been tight, depressing, gray, and heartless; I have managed to make a few decision for that will pay off in the long run. One of which I have to say I have been very bad at commiting to. So we won't talk about, but the Lord knows my heart.
Just keep praying that all things work for the favor of the Lord, and that I find peace and joy, before I pull My hair out!!! ; )

Good Morning! “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” (Genesis 12:1, 2). God empowered Abraham to prosper after He told him to leave what was familiar to him. Be open to hear God tell you to leave what is comfortable so you can go to your next level. Creflo Dollar

The Road Into Uncertainty

I found this picture. And if it doesn't describe what I feel to a T!! I've been asking a lot of questions of myself latley that I haven't really been able to give an answer to. This sounds odd, I know. But soul searching can be very hard when nothing else around you feels or looks great. Uncertainty is the gray cloud, cloud of dust, and gremlin in my life right now. I hope I don't sound.... off! But there is so much tha life is just qeustioning right now. Fear is eating a whole in my life like something awful. I feel like I should have a stick on my head that says, " Please stand by".
